What the Scripture Says 📖
“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another.” —John 15:12-17
What A Friend We Have In Jesus! 🙌🏼
There is SO much to unpack in this passage. First off, Jesus is talking about how He died for us because he loves us. Because of the love he has shown us, we are then called to go and extend that love to everyone we encounter. When this passage says that “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends”, Jesus exemplifies the most pure image of his friendship with us. He laid down his life for us because he loves us that much! There was nothing we could do to earn this kind of love, that’s just who He is!!
What This Means For Us
Jesus is the ultimate friend! He laid down his life because of his love for us, showing us how much he wants a relationship with us. When we begin to view Jesus as a friend, we begin to walk with Him closer than ever before. As you go throughout your day, invite Jesus into the little moments. Begin to think about what it means to walk with Jesus on a daily basis as your friend. One that loves you so much, he laid down his life for you! 💛
